Rogers canada announced lumia 920

Rogers canada announced lumia 920

The good news is Nokia is finally getting some details out about its highly touted Lumia 920, specifically carrier deals. The bad news is they are couched in exclusivity deals (we’ll have more on that shortly).

Such is the case with Rogers in Canada who have announced that the Lumia 920 will be coming to the carrier with 4G LTE in November.

From their press release:

"Rogers is proud to bring the new Nokia Lumia 920 to our customers looking for the best unified experience and to further extend our leadership as the carrier with the largest LTE superphone selection in Canada," said John Boynton, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Communications. "With seamless access to entertainment, sports and business content, the Nokia Lumia 920 offers customers a world leading internet experience powered by the Rogers LTE network."

Sounds like a good deal for those on Rogers but not so great if you’re on Bell or Telus who are not expected to carry that particular model number—at least not on launch. Once again, consumers will have to chose which carrier they want to be a part of and that’s never a good way to get the phone into most people’s hands.

What’s the best, cheapest Canadian cellphone plan out there?

UPDATE: What’s the best, cheapest Canadian cellphone plan out there?

TORONTO

We’ve all complained about our cellphone plans: locked in a contract, too many hidden fees, not enough data…the list goes on.

But who has time to call every provider, wait on hold for minutes that crawl by, and engage in what could be described as a “challenging” conversation about the best plan available, then compare companies like Rogers, Telus, Bell, Fido, Virgin, , Wind, Koodo, mobilicity and the latest—PC Mobile?

President’s Choice launched new cellphone plans with shorter-than-normal (18 or 30 month) contracts last week. The website lists their “refreshingly simple plans,” which include options to get text updates to track voice and data usage, as well as to limit mobile charges.

John-Kurt Pliniussen, marketing expert and professor at Queen’s University School of Business, said these plans provide “novel options” related to duration.

Pliniussen said typically Canadians have to choose from year-based plans with three-year plans priced to possess the most “perceived value since the phone is virtually free.”

“However, the real key for any consumer is less about the length, but more about the monthly charges she or he will accrue based on their usage needs,” he wrote in an email to Global News.

America’s Verizon Communications has reportedly made an offer to buy newcomers Wind Mobile and possibly Mobilicity, amid what Global News reporter Jamie Sturgeon describes as their struggle to meaningfully win over enough consumers to be viable long-term.

We wanted to know: How do Canada’s cellphone plans compare?

We used a price comparison study conducted for the CRTC in 2012 by Wall Communications Inc. to find the average use of phone minutes and texts per month, and created a script which was read verbatim to each of the nine companies listed above. When asked (only by Telus and Mobilicity) the user location was Toronto, Ont.

Summer Means Less

Summer means less clothes for most people, but surprisingly nearly two fifths (38%) of Brits whose skin is irritated by fabric say it is this time of year, more than any other, that clothing fabric causes the most irritation to their skin, according to a poll commissioned by COTTON USA.

During each of the seasons of Autumn and Spring, when we are wrapped up against the elements, only a mere 1% of affected adults are most concerned about their clothes causing skin irritation. The same goes for children, with nearly a third of parents of kids with irritable skin (29%) saying that summertime is when their child’s skin is most affected by the clothes they wear.

The main culprit appears to be nylon, with only 2% of people believing it is the least irritating material, followed closely by polyester (3%) and wool (5%).

Cotton comes top as the best answer to summer skin blues, with almost two thirds of adults (65%) citing cotton fabric as the least irritating material against their skin.

Dr Sarah Wakelin, consultant Dermatologist at a Central London Teaching Hospital, comments: “Skin irritations often worsen during summer due to the heat and humidity. Most people with sensitive skin will feel better in clothes made of pure cotton as it allows the skin to breathe easily.”

Steph Thiers-Ratcliffe, International Marketing Manager, COTTON USA concludes: “Cotton is extraordinarily important in our daily lives and this latest research shows how beneficial it is for people in terms of comfort next to their skin. Cotton clothing ranges from denim jeans and shirts through to underwear, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, dresses and children's wear, so is suitable for every occasion, whatever the time of year.”
About the research

The research was carried out by YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 2107 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 27th - 30th March 2009. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+).
